Debt Free Weirdos

Its Weird to Be Debt Free - Start Being Weird Today!

Gotta love those first posts:)

So. My name is Kelly, my credit rating is truly horrific and like a lot of people out there, I'm in debt. I'm lucky that I'm in debt to family members, I think, and not banks and other creditors. At least my family doesn't send me to collections agencies. It's my goal to pay them off and make enough money to move out for good. I've made several attempts at this but I think that until I take myself seriously, it won't happen. I think this website and forum will really help me with that as I can already tell it's going to provide both information and inspiration.

My financial goals are:
pay back my parents
increase my emergency fund from 3000$ to 7000$ (so I can move out and have a buffer)
do my taxes this year (haven't done them in almost four years. Eeep!)

Aaaand that's all, really!

I haven't heard of Financial Peace University but it sounds like something I should look up. Those steps make a lot of sense and are now making me rethink the way I'm going about this. I've never had an emergency fund before, I've always cashed in my RRSPs when confronted with a tight financial situation. But now that I don't have RRSPs anymore, an emerg. fund makes a lot of sense to have.

Thank you for making me think! And when I get home from work, I think I'll drop you a line to find out more about this.

We teach the baby steps in Financial Peace University.
Step #1 $1000 in the bank as a small emergency fund
Step #2 pay all debts off smallest to largest
I'll stop there, and if you want I can help you get a plan that's not as vague.

Thanks Kelly.........

Apologies for the delay in reply! I forgot I was a member here for a while. I do have a plan, though it is vague! I need to get working on it and be really serious about this. I have not heard of Dave but possibly it's because I'm Canadian and so don't have much to do w/the IRS and such. I've just googled Dave, though. Wow! I can't believe I haven't heard of him before.

Sounds like you have a plan. Don't worry about the almighty credit score. You need to focus on getting the IRS paid first. I'll be glad to assist you. I'm currently a FPU Coordinator for Dave Ramsey. Hopefully, you have heard of Dave ??
